Using winter break time wisely....
1. wake up early. Nothing eats away the winter break like moping around beneath the covers. decide the previous day when you will get out of bed, then make sure follow though.

During the first few days of vacation, chances are that you will relish the opportunity to sleep in. It's okay to do this and give yourself a break, because your body will naturally put itself on a schedule to wake itself up earlier.

follow routine. however loose, the structure will both motivate you and keep hours spent 'doing nothing ' to a minimum. Don't play to many games and even if it might be cold to go out for a few hours every week.

6 Questions?

  1. What direction do you see the U.S. going? Why is it going this direction?
I see the U.S going in a bad direction, I think there might be another depression because of the Obama Care there are a lot of people who might not be able to afford medical care.
2. Why do SAT scores in the U.S continue to go downwards?
I think the reason that SAT scores continue to go down in the U.S, because there are a lot of people in school not doing what they're suppose to be doing in school.
3. What are solutions to low SAT scores?
I think we should get people in schools better education by giving after school programs and getting kids to take the SAT more serious so that they know its an important test.
4. make a few bullet list of a few problems with education in California.

  • Some teachers don't pay attention.
  • Some get mad if you didn't hear the instructions and wont repeat it.
  • Too many teachers giving worksheets than helping out.
  • Kids not doing there homework and not learning the material
5. What are solutions to the California education problems?
I think the principle should talk to his teachers without mentioning any students names so that we all get the same treatment not just one, if a student asks a question help them out rather than get mad, and doing more class activities and communicating more.
6. " To educate a man in mind but not in morals is to educate a menace to society."
What I think this quote is saying is that if you teach a man he'll learn but if you reach out to him and make learning a fun and more than just learning you are helping him or her have better morals with there work than bad ones.

"It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference."
What I think this statement is trying to say is that you cant always win when you feel like you are you have to prepare yourself to win you have to do step to win at something. Just because you feel like you are going to win doesn't mean you will so always prepare yourself to win.

HPIAM Datat

I think this is a worrying statistic, because the number of student that should be under 2.0 should be a lot less than 1/3 of the school. I think some specific reasons i think this is happening is,because kids are barely getting use to 8 classes so I know next semester will be way better than this one. The way we can resolve this problem is with time or change the schedule back.

HPIAM: ADVISORY PROJECT

Working notebook

The working notebook is the daily notebook taken to class. It holds all the paper and information needed each day. Any three-ring binder can serve as a working notebook; the nylon zippered type tends to last longer. Your working notebook should contain:

  • A portable three-hole punch
  • A zippered pouch with three holes to hold highlighters, pencils, pens, clips, "sticky notes" , and other small supplies
  • section dividers for each subject labeled homework, notes, handouts, and quizzes/tests
 An assignment book
these items are available
One working notebook for all of your child's classes might be too large for some students, especially if they are in high school. Two medium-size notebooks with two or three subject in each is an alternative to one large notebook. morning classes might be placed in another.
Whichever alternative note above that you choose, the important thing is that on a daily basis, you should date, three-hole punch, and file any of his school papers under the appropriate divider for each subject. You should also note assignments in detail in his assignment book.
HPIAM: ADVISORY PROJECT
Next Tuesday, November 5,  bring all your work from all classes in order to show the organize your binder, folders, notebooks, ect. so you need to come prepared

Prompt 4

Prompt 4
Thanks to the internet, people have more access to more information than at any other time in history. People can instantly find information on almost any topic in the time it takes to type a couple of words and click a mouse. But we often know little about the source of this information, including its reliability and the qualifications of the person who wrote it. If we don't know its resource, information is not much good to us.

  1. Do people need to know the source of any information before they use it?
Yes, people know information about a source before using it, because they don't know what they are getting into or if the information is accurate.

2. Plan and write an essay in which you develop your own point of view on the issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observation.
I think that people should know about the information they are searching up, because what if you are searching up information on a project and you got to a website you have no idea ever existed but it has information on your topic. You should never engage in a website you have no idea about they could be giving you made up information or information that has not been proven correct or incorrect. You should either use websites suggested by someone who knows the site rather than taking it a pond yourself. Another reason a website might want you to log into their website is to give you viruses so watch out.

Writing Skills 1 of 10

Writing Skills
1 of 10

Communication is at the top of the list of skills that employers look for. And communication in the workplace often means writing.
Health professionals keep patient charts, researchers depend on the money they collect by writing grant application, software engineers write technical specifications, and nearly everyone writes e-mail to people inside and outside their organization. And before you even get the chance to interview for a job, you’ll need to present yourself in cover letters and resumes.
So, by taking writing serious and doing your best on every research paper, every lab report you writ, every new post you write in your blog site, and every writing activity you engage in, you’re preparing yourself for a good career.

Anon
What I think this satement is saying is that behind every man or woman that carries a gold metal didn’t make them a champ it shows their a champ but doesn’t mean they are. What it mean that hard work makes you a champ, because if you are a hard worker never give up and always follow your dreams and never set limits for yourselves that’s what makes you a champ because you will get place and in the end you might end up with a gold metal to show off your hard work.

Read Between the Lines
Make a judgment about the site’s reliability based on your own analysis of the site and the information it contains. Here are some ways to do this:
·       Look for facts you know or can check with a trusted source. If the site gets those facts right, it’s more likely that the other facts on the site are also accurate.
·       Study the language used. Is it angry, satiric or overly impassioned? This may indicate that the site is biased.
·       Consider whether the arguments are logical and backed up by evidence, and whether the site presents only one point of view.
·       Check the links to the sources that the author acknowledges. Scholarly writing, whether in print or online, should include a bibliography.

Dot-what?
Look at the site’s address. What follows the dot?
·       Dot-com is not only for businesses; anyone can use it. Dot-coms include well-known and respected companies, but also private individuals.
·       Dot-org usually indicated a not-for-profit organization. Many dot-orgs present unbiased information, but others have political agendas, focus on debated issues instead of facts, and might not present all sides of an argument.

• Dot-gov indicates a government website at the federal, state or local level. The federal government is a good source of statistic, and its sites are widely considered among the most reliable.
• Dot-mil is used by sites that are part of the military.
• Dot-edu usually indicates a university website. While its published research is generally considered very trustworthy, anyone associated with the university, whether a world-renowned scholar or a freshman, can be given space on its server. Professors sometimes put student course work up on the web, but that doesn't mean they’re vouching for the information’s accuracy.

What I think this statement is saying is that if you keep trying and trying and never give up is better than having intelligences, because with intelligence it is useless if you don’t have effort. You should always be consistent and never give up no matter what you should always be practicing and getting better at what you are doing.

Conduct your research with the attitude of a skeptic. As you examine websites for clues that they’re trustworthy, ask these questions.
·       Who wrote the Web page? If you can’t identify the individual or organization responsible for the information, don’t use it.
·       What are the author’s qualifications for writing on the subject?
·       Has the article passed through an editorial process designed to ensure quality and accuracy?

John Wooden

What I think this statement is trying to say is that you should always try to do your work fast do it neatly and do it so that your teacher could understand what you did for that assignment. The other part of the quote is trying to say whatever you are doing you should do it fast but never in a hurry, because if you rush threw something you wont get it the way you want it to be or if you do finish the assignment in a hurry it will look ugly or you might have to take out some things from it.

Using the Web Wisely
Thanks to the Web, information is easy to find. However, it’s also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it. You’ve probably used the internet to do research for a paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or to form an opinion about current events. Looking up information online research, it’s important to find sites you can trust.
Many websites claim to have the facts, but are full of errors. Others present information in a biased way—they only give one side of an argument. How can you tell a reliable source from an unreliable one? Also, it is critical that you post online only that which is descent and appropriate, never anything pornographic, vulgar, indecent, out of taste, untruthful, or obscene. Post those things that will make a good name for you and your organization, that will promote goodwill and be of benefit to the world.

Recite
At the end of each section, look up from the text and in your own words recite an answer to your question for that section. Then write down your answer. Be sure to provide examples that support it.
Now repeat the Question, Read and Recite steps for each section of the chapter. First ask a question for the next section. Then read to find the answer. Finally, recite the answer in your own words and jot it down. The written question and answer can help you study in the future.
Review
After completing the chapter, review your notes. Identify the main points by looking for the important idea in each section. Recite, or write, a brief summary of the assignment.
Review your study notes every week to help you remember the information. When it’s time to prepare for your tests, you’ll find you’ve created an invaluable study guide.

“The first law of success…. Is concentration; to bend all the energies to one point, and to go directly to that point, looking neither to the right nor the left.”
William Mathew
What I think this statement is trying to say is try to keep your eye on the ball at all times and never look away from it just pretend that ball was a goal for example you should try to reach to that goal at all matters not moving from that goal taking short cuts to it or cheating to it. You should do what this statement says, because it is trying to show you that you should always say to your first plan especially if it is above the line act.

Question
As you survey the text, ask a question for each section. Ask what, why, how, when, who and where questions as they relate to the content. Here’s how you can create questions:
•       Turn the title, headings or subheadings into questions.
•       Rewrite the questions at the end of the chapter or after each subheading in your own words.
Write down your question. Questions help you pay attention, understand the text better and recall the information more easily later on.

Read
Read one section of the chapter at a time, actively looking for an answer to your question for that section. Pay attention to bold and italicized text that authors use to make important points.
Be sure to review everything in the section, including tables, graphs and illustrations – these features can communicate an idea more powerfully than written text.

In addition to increase your comprehension, you’ll also be showing initative, something teachers always like to guides. Going the extra mile in your research elevates your achievement 10-fold.
Tip 4: Use Dictionary
Make sure you have access to the dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by using context clues, but sometimes you can’t. Rather than simply skipping over the word you don’t know, take the time to look them up. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll built your vocabulary at the same time.

Reading and writing go hand in hand. The better you understand a text, the more likely you are to successfully communicate your thoughts about it in writing. So it’s important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that in mind, here’s how to improve your reading comprehension.

Tips 1-2
Tip 1: Annotate
Be an active reader. Instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important story elements, key factual information and significant ideas in the text.
Tip 2: Note the Author’s Writing Style
Every author writes with a purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading, look for patterns in the author’s writing. For example, you may notice a repetition For example, you may notice a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols—or the use of a distinct type of sentence structure. Authors employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, so be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

The Three Don’ts
Don’t whine
Don’t complain
Don’t make excuses
I think these are true don’ts we shouldn’t be whining about something we have to do. We should always do what we are told to do no matter the cost so long as it is under the rules of doing what is right. Whining does nothing but make you wait longer on doing what you already have to do. You shouldn’t complain either it makes you look weak and no one wants to think your weak so just get to what you have to do. Don’t make excuses they do nothing for you just cause you make an excuse about something there is always a down side you either have to do it either way or the person you are making an excuse to wont believe you and if they do believe you then you are abusing their trust.

3. Set Attainable Goals
If you’re having trouble writing a 25-page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don’t focus on that final number. Break the paper down and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any project in small chunks.
4. Find a Social Support Network
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning your course and starting to explore colleges. You can also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.
5. Acknowledge Your Accomplishments
Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send an email, get a snack. Then move on to the next project.

"The Three Never"
Never Lie
Never Cheat
Never Steal
John Wooden
What I  think this statement is trying to say is that you should never do any of the above things no matter what. You should always be doing what you are told and if someone asks you a question seriously or even if it is a normal question you should always tell the truth. You should never cheat on anything no matter how good you think you are at getting always with things you shouldn't cheat because not only is it bad but everyone always gets caught for cheating. You should never steal either cause you'll feel guilty for doing that your conscience will eat at you and you'll feel so bad for doing it and you can't go back in time and stop yourself from doing it.

5 Tips for Staying Motivated Tips 1-2

5 Tips for Staying Motivated
Tips 1-2
To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all time. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.

1.   Focus on High-Impact Activities
The key to success in high school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.
To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy towards those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. Are you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.
2.   Create New challenges
Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For a book reports, pick a history book instead of another biography.

“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trial the pleasure of an approving conscience.”
Robert E. Lee
What I think the first statement is trying to say is that you always have the time to do what is right whenever and where ever you are you should always have the words choose the right in your mind and it will help you out a lot down the line. What I think the second part of this statement means is that the more you practice at doing what is right every where you go you will sooner or later make it habit and keep on doing it. Then it says after you are use to doing what is right you will enjoy life more and you wont have to suffer at the feet of your conscience for doing what is wrong so you should always do what is right to enjoy life even more to the fullest if you can so long as it is the right thing to do.

Take Advantage of Any Free Time
If you have a study period or a long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not left flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act liken a small book with pages. You can even have separate ringer stacks for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER PUT IT ON A CARD.
Study with a friend
Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other , compare notes and predict test questions. Consider joining a study group.
Communicate
If you have concerns about the amount or type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your tasks.
Celebrate Your Achievements
Reward yourself for hitting milestones or doing something well.
